Portrait of Katharina Von Bora

Description of Illustration: wife of Martin Luther, nun, escaped in a barrel of fish, dedication, mother and wife, three versions: sepia, grey and blue

Katharina von Bora (January 29, 1499 – December 20, 1552), also referred to as "die Lutherin" was the wife of Martin Luther, German leader of the Protestant Reformation. Beyond what is found in the writings of Luther and some of his contemporaries, little is known about her. Despite this, Katharina is often considered one of the most important participants of the Reformation because of her role in helping to define Protestant family life and setting the tone for clergy marriages. Katharina Von Bora Quotes

"I will stick to Christ as a burr to cloth."
deathbed quote by Katharina Von Bora
"Let the devil believe that!" Katharina's response to
Luther's teasing about acquiring more than one wife.
"That's a fine kettle of fish!" Katharine may have never said
this but she did escape from a nunnery in a barrel full of fish.

Contemporary Lutheran Rose

My original hand drawn version in pastel.

The "posterized" version made in Photoshop.
Description of Illustration:  color versions of my contemporary Lutheran Rose, these have transparent backgrounds, they are not commissioned by the church, I just thought the older ones were a bit tired, sometimes you've got to take the bull by the horns and wrestle with it a bit to get something people can relate to, Luther's idea.  And yes, it's been represented in great variety by many people.
Here is a tiny one.

Frederick the Wise

Description of Illustration:  a color medallion shaped graphic of Frederick the Wise wears a fur cape and headdress common to those of his station in the early 1500s

Frederick III (17 January 1463 – 5 May 1525), also known as Frederick the Wise (German "Friedrich der Weise"), was Elector of Saxony (from the House of Wettin) from 1486 to his death. Frederick was the son of Ernest, Elector of Saxony and his wife Elisabeth, daughter of Albert III, Duke of Bavaria. He is notable as being one of the most powerful early defenders of Martin Luther, Lutheranism and the Protestant Reformation although he had little personal contact with Luther himself. Fredericks' treasurer Degenhart Pfaffinger (a German dynasty), spoke on behalf of him to Martin Luther. Pfaffinger supported Frederick since the joint pilgrimage to the holy land. He is considered to have remained a Roman Catholic all his life, yet gradually inclining toward doctrines of the Reformation. Read more . . .  and here!
