Tell Me, You Bright Stars That Shine

 TELL ME, YOU BRIGHT STARS THAT SHINE

From Hickes' Devotions

Tell me, you bright Stars that shine
Round about the Lamb's high throne;
How, through bodies once like mine,
How are you thus glorious grown?

Hark! with one voice they reply;
This was all our happy skill;
We on Jesus fixed our eye,
And His eminent followers' still.

As we clearly saw their mind
Set and ruled, we ordered ours:
Both this state alone designed,
Up towards this strained all our powers.

Taught by Temperance we abstained
From all less — for greater goods:
Slighting little drops, we gained
Full, and sweet, and lasting floods.

Arm'd with Fortitude, we bare
Lesser evils, worse to fly:
Mortal death we durst out-dare,
Rather than for ever die.

Justice we observed, by giving
Every one their utmost due:
That in peace and order living,
All might freely heaven pursue.

Prudence governed all the rest;
Prudence made us still apply
What was fittest, what was best,
To advance great Charity.

On these golden wheels of grace,
That Love's fiery chariot bear,
We arrived at this blest place:
Follow us and never fear.

Jesus Only

Description of Clip Art: simply framed poem "Jesus Only" by W. H. Griffith Thomas, black and white text

Jesus Only

The Light of heaven is the face of Jesus.
The Joy of heaven is the presence of Jesus.
The Melody of heaven is the name of Jesus.
The Harmony of heaven is the praise of
Jesus.
The Theme of heaven is the work of Jesus.
The Employment of heaven is the service of
Jesus.
The Fullness of heaven is Jesus Himself.
In all preaching the Son of god is the substance,
the Word of God is the instrument,
the Spirit of God is the power, the Man of
God is the channel, the salvation of God is
the result, and the glory of God is the end.

by W. H. Griffith Thomas.

Reap And Gather

REAP AND GATHER.

The Savior's heart is yearning
With true compassion deep
For all His wandering children
Who are in sin asleep;
He prays His faithful followers
Their labors to renew,
To reap and glean and gather
The many, not the few.

The path that leads to glory
You have in love been taught;
From ways of death and darkness
To life and light been brought;
You have received so freely
Of love and power and light,
Extend your hand in mercy
And rescue with your might.

Go to the work with gladness
And count it joy to do
With willing heart and purpose
What God requires of you;
Call sinners to repentance,
His kingdom is at hand,
Prepare their souls to meet Him
And in His presence stand.

The Fullness of His Presence

The Fullness of His Presence

 I think, as I gaze on this beautiful scene,
That Jesus must be very near,
And eagerly catching each word and each song,
As it falls on His listening ear.

His far-seeing eyes must be glancing about,
And searching with diligent care,
The hearts of these children, to see if indeed
His name is in truth written there.

He loves little children! has given them this day
To be altogether their own, -
A type of that glorious Sabbath when we
Shall assemble around His great throne;

Shall crown Him the King of all Kings evermore;
Shall, worshipping, kneel at His feet; -
And again He will place His dear hands on our heads,
And bless us with thrilling words sweet.

Moreover, I think, as I gaze on this scene,
That heaven's a place much like this,
Except that, instead of the Presence we feel,
We'll see Jesus just as He is.

The Days of Heaven

 THE DAYS OF HEAVEN

The Days of Heaven are peaceful days,
Still as yon glassy sea;
So calm, so still in God our days
As the Days of Heaven would be.

The Days of Heaven are holy days,
From sin forever free;
So cleansed and kept our days, O Lord,
As the Days of Heaven would be.

The Days of Heaven are happy days,
Sorrow they never see;
So full of gladness all our days
As the Days of Heaven would be.

The Days of Heaven are healthful days,
They feed on life's fair tree;
So feeding on Thy strength, O Christ,
Our days as Heaven may be.

The Days of Heaven are busy days,
They serve continually;
So spent for Thee and Thine, our days
As the Days of Heaven would be.

The Days of Heaven are Christly days,
The Light of Heaven is He;
So walking at His side, our days
As the Days of Heaven would be.

The Days of Heaven are endless days,
Days of eternity;
So may our lives and works endure
While the Days of Heaven shall be.

And soon the glad millennial days
Our joyful eyes shall see,
And for a thousand happy years
Our days as Heaven shall be.

Walk with us, Lord, through all the days,
And let us walk with thee;
Till as Thy will is done in Heaven,
On earth so shall it be.

I'm Living In Heaven Today

 I'M LIVING IN HEAVEN TO-DAY

They tell of the bliss of the ransomed above
In the Land that is far, far away;
But Jesus so fills my glad heart with His love
That I'm living in heaven to-day.

They tell of the pleasures that never decline
And the treasures that never decay;
But Jesus Himself and His riches are mine,
And I'm living in heaven to-day.

No sorrow e'er comes to that beautiful shore,
And their tears have been all wiped away;
But Jesus has taught me to sorrow no more,
And He fills me with heaven to-day.

For heaven is Jesus and Jesus is mine,
And His presence is with me alway;
He fills me so full of His glory divine
That I'm living in heaven to-day.

I now have a joy that they never can know,
In that Land that is far, far away;
I'm seeking and saving poor sinners below,
And this is my heaven to-day.
